Conversación de Campo es un colectivo de arte e investigación compuesto por las artistas Chilenas Rosario Carmona, Catalina Matthey, Paula Salas y Rosario Montero. CDC empezó en Enero del 2012 como una plataforma para intercambiar y experimentar los conocimientos que las miembros del grupo estaban adquiriendo en sus diferentes contextos geográficos. CDC se transformó en una investigación colaborativa: un sistema de análisis y producción que utiliza herramientas tanto de la antropología como de las artes visuales. A través de lecturas compartidas, imágenes, videos, teorías e impresiones, crean una estrategia personal que les permite explotar sus experiencias en los campos del arte y la antropología. Actualmente CDC tiene dos ramas, la página web -que se renueva permanentemente y sirve como un diario de campo- y los proyectos in-situ -que se realizan en contextos particulares de acuerdo a las condiciones de los mismos.
Conversación de Campo (CDC) is an art and research group formed by Chilean female artists Rosario Carmona, Catalina Matthey, Paula Salas and Rosario Montero. CDC was born in January 2012 as a platform to share and explore a cross disciplinary practice between art and anthropology. As an art collective CDC is concerned with the tension related to methodologies, practices and theories that this transdisciplinary field rises, such as power structures, politics and the ontological division between reality and fiction.
CDC offers a third space -beyond art and anthropology-, where it intends to generate and spread knowledge that can enable local people to gain control over their cultural representation. Through art practices -on which the use of narratives is central-, CDC seeks to unveil power structures underlying the historical, economical, ethnic, religious and political constraints shaping their communal world. Moreover, by doing its work, CDC pretends to raise a social consciousness wherein heritage is conceived not as a fix feature but as a constant dialectical relation between individuals, institutions, territory and past.
Currently, CDC is investigating the relationships between territory and its inhabitants in the creation of cultural identity. By means of direct collaboration with the neighbours of the area under study the collective is producing social maps where the participants and viewers explore and reflect on the role of landscape in the construction of communal identities. Enrolling the subjects of study as co researchers CDC intends to gain deeper insight into the local life and further, to open up a space to share knowledge horizontally, embracing experiential and relational wisdom.
Es Licenciada en Artes Visuales de la Universidad de Chile y Magíster en Artes Visuales de la Universidad de Chile. Actualmente cursa el Magíster en Antropología de la Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano. Su obra expande los soportes pictóricos tradicionales, relacionando la miniatura con la pintura de bodegón a través de la representación de lo que cotidianamente es mirado por encima, presentándolo repetitiva y regladamente. Ha expuesto individualmente cuatro veces, Otras Prácticas, en Galería Animal, Las Partes en Galería Moro, el año 2010, Diseminación en Galería Die Ecke, el año 2009 y Hábito de Disciplina Estéril en Galería BECH, el año 2008.Entre sus exposiciones colectivas destacan Archipiélago en Galería Concreta, Matucana 100, año 2010, COHORTES en Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, año 2009, Lengua al Plato en Sala SAM el año 2009, CONDUIT, Museo de Artes Visuales, año 2007. Vive en Santiago, Chile, donde se ha desempeñado como docente de Pintura e Historia del Arte en las Universidades Andrés Bello, del Desarrollo, Uniacc, Diego Portales y Tecnológica. Ha obtenido la beca Fondart del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura el 2007, 2008.
She holds a BA in Visual Arts and a MFA from the University of Chile. She has exhibited individually in Santiago, in 2011 in Animal Gallery, 2010 Moro Gallery, 2009 in Die Ecke Gallery and in 2008 in BECH Gallery. Also she has been part of several group exhibitions including Concreta Gallery (Matucana 100), 2010, COHORT Museum of Contemporary Art in 2009, and Sala SAM. In 2007 and 2008 she won a Fondart scholarship from the National Council of Culture. Currently she lives in Santiago, Chile, where he is teaching Painting and Art History at the Andres Bello University, Uniacc and Diego Portales University. Also, at the moment she is studying a MA in anthropology at the Academia de Humanismo Cristiano.
Licenciada en Artes Plásticas mención Pintura y Magíster de Artes Visuales de la Universidad de Chile (graduada en 2006). Ha expuesto individualmente en el Centro Cultural de España en 2006, en la Galería Die Ecke en 2007 y en la Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, México DF, en el 2008. Entre sus exposiciones colectivas destacan “Cohortes 02-07″ en 2009 en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Parque Forestal, “Suple” en 2004, en Pedro de Valdivia 2454, y “Ninguno” en 2005, en el Museo Histórico Militar. Actualmente vive en México, donde realiza un magíster en Antropología Social en la Universidad Iberoamericana y da clases de Historia del Arte en la misma entidad.
She studied Bachelor of Fine Arts and MFA mention in Visual Arts at the University of Chile. She had a solo exhibitions at the Cultural Center of Spain in 2006, Die Ecke Gallery in 2007 and the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, Mexico City, in 2008. Her group exhibitions include “Cohort 02-07″ in 2009 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Forest Park, “Supplement” in 2004, Pedro de Valdivia in 2454, and “None” in 2005, the Military History Museum. She currently lives in Mexico where she is completing a MA in Social Anthropology at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico DF where she also teaches Art History.
Estudió un master en Artistic Research en la Universidad de Ámsterdam y anteriormente estudió Licenciatura en Artes Visuales en la Universidad Católica de Chile. Desde el año 2006 trabaja como artista plástica exponiendo su obra en muestras colectivas e individuales tales como “Agua Corriente” en Galería Metropolitana el año 2007, “De Paseo” en el Centro de Extensión UC, “Mitos Contemporáneos” el 2008 en la Biblioteca de Santiago, el mismo año expone junto a Cristóbal León el video “La Esclava”, en el Festival de Video-arte en Barcelona BAC y el año siguiente el mismo video se presenta en el Festival europeo de media Art EMAF, también en la muestra “Comunidad Ficticia” en Matucana 100 y en la exposición “BIOPODER” en galería Vértice en Lima, Perú. También realizó la exposición individual “Cochinilla”en Stuart Gallery, 2010, y el proyecto “Brought by the Rivers” en Upominki Space, 2012, Rotterdam, Holanda. Recientemente participó en la muestra colectiva “Ejercicios de Posibilidad” en Galería Gabriela Mistral, Santiago, Chile junto al grupo Conversación de Campo. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Santiago, Chile.
Graduated on 2012 from the Artistic Research MA at the University of Amsterdam. Previously she studied a BA in Fine Arts at the university in Chile (PUC), where she also completed a Minor in Cinema Aesthetic. From the year 2006 she has been showing her work in collective exhibitions and festivals such as: Ejercicios de Posibilidad 2012-2013, at Galería Gabriela Mistral, Santiago, Chile; Residency To have one's cake and eat it too, 2012 at SYB Kunsthuis, The Netherlands; BIOPODER, 2010 at Vértice Gallery, Lima, Peru; European Media Art Festival EMAF, 2009, Osnabrück, Germany; International Contemporary Video Art Festival of Barcelona: BAC, 2009, Spain; Cabeza de Ratón: III Concurso de Arte Joven, 2008, Visual Arts Museum MAVI, Santiago, Chile and Comunidad Ficticia, 2009, Matucana 100, Santiago, Chile. Also, she has had solo shows and solo projects like residency project Brought by the Rivers, 2012, Upominki project space, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Artistic research project Our own other: an Archive for the Future, Tropen Museum, 2011, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; exhibition Cochinilla, Stuart Gallery, 2010, Santiago, Chile; and Agua corriente, Metropolitan Gallery, 2007, Santiago, Chile.
Artista visual y fotógrafa. Licenciada en Artes Visuales (PUC), Magíster en Artes Visuales (UC) y MSc en Antropología digital (UCL, Londres). En el 2010 formo parte de la selección de fotógrafos chilenos realizada por el CNCA, 02/CNCA. Durante el 2012 formo parte de la curatoría realizada por Martín Parr sobre fotografía Chilena para la publicación Inglesa C Photo (Ivory Press) titulada “Nueva Mirada Latina“. En el 2010 gana FONDART para la realización de proyecto fotográfico “Ciudad Ideal“. Ha expuesto en Chile, España, China, México y Venezuela. Hoy reside en Londres, Reino Unido donde realiza un Doctorado en Estudios Culturales en Goldsmiths.
Photo based artist with a BA in Visual Arts at the Catholic University of Chile, MFA from the University of Chile (graduated in 2007) and a MSc in Digital Anthopology UCL (2013, London). She had her first solo exhibition at the Centro Cultural de España Gallery in 2004. In 2006 she published her first photography book, "Parallel Views". In the year 2010 her work was part of the selection of contemporary Chilean photographers for 02/CNCA. Recently she has been part of C Photo edition, "New Latin Look" Curated by Martin Parr. She has participated in several collective exhibitions in Chile, China, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela. In 2010 he won FONDART (Chilean art fund) to develop "Ciudad Ideal". During 2009 she creates Puro Delirio a photography studio specialized in art-work documentation and fashion. Today she is director and editor of Contrahilo, a visual portfolio of fashion creators. She currently lives in London, UK where she works on several projects related to photography and is doing a PhD in cultural Studies at Goldsmiths College.
